| George "The Fox" Williams worked as a staff arranger for Gene Krupa between 1945 and 1949. His charts included ingenious new versions of swing hits and oldies, including "By the River St. Marie" heard on this CD, and new, "progressive" items. Whereas quite a few of Williams' writings had actually been recorded, most of Gerry Mulligan's arrangements for Krupa were only used in concert. Volume 14 of the complete recordings of Gene Krupa and his orchestra presented in chronological order, opens with two vocals by Carolyn Grey, and includes tracks with Anita O' Day, instrumentals with pianist Ed Fincke, plus tracks with Roy Eldridge, Delores Hawkins, and Frank Rosolino. Great big band bebop! | |||
